Meaning: Hey brother!  (Regardless of the era) Guru (without taking refuge) without husband Prabhu is not reconciled, the living woman and woman wanders in all the four ages.  The sovereignty of that lord-husband is unalterable (that it is only through the Guru that he gets his union).  Without him, no one else is equal (who can change this hook).  Hey brother!  There is no one like that without the Lord.  That Lord Himself is going to last forever.  The living woman who is in front of the Guru makes deep union with that one.  When the mind of the living woman resides (in remembrance of God) following the Guru's will, then the living woman becomes reconciled to the Lord's husband.
 Hey brother!  It is only when the Guru is found that the Lord gets (the Guru) the name of the Lord resides in the heart of the living woman, and without the name of God (from the bindings of Maya), there is no cure.  Hey Nanak!  If the mind resides in the memory of the Lord, then the living woman enjoys the union of the Lord, joy is born in her heart.

सूही महला ३ ॥ जुग चारे धन जे भवै बिनु सतिगुर सोहागु न होई राम ॥ निहचलु राजु सदा हरि केरा तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोई राम ॥ तिसु बिनु अवरु न कोई सदा सचु सोई गुरमुखि एको जाणिआ ॥ धन पिर मेलावा होआ गुरमती मनु मानिआ ॥ सतिगुरु मिलिआ ता हरि पाइआ बिनु हरि नावै मुकति न होई ॥ नानक कामणि कंतै रावे मनि मानिऐ सुखु होई ॥१॥ {पन्ना 769-770}

अर्थ: हे भाई! (युग चाहे कोई भी हो) गुरू (की शरण पड़े) बिना पति प्रभू का मिलाप नहीं होता, जीव-स्त्री चाहे चारों युगों में भटकती फिरे। उस प्रभू-पति का हुकम अटल है (कि गुरू के द्वारा ही उसका मिलाप प्राप्त होता है)। उसके बिना कोई और उसकी बराबरी का नहीं (जो इस हुकम को बदलवा सके)। हे भाई! जिस प्रभू के बिना उस जैसा और कोई नहीं। वह प्रभू स्वयं ही सदा कायम रहने वाला है। गुरू के सन्मुख रहने वाली जीव-स्त्री उस एक के साथ गहरी सांझ बनाती है। जब गुरू की मति पर चल के जीव-स्त्री का मन (परमात्म की याद में) रीझ जाता है, तब जीव-स्त्री का प्रभू-पति से मिलाप हो जाता है।

हे भाई! जब गुरू मिलता है तब ही प्रभू की प्राप्ति होती है (गुरू ही) प्रभू का नाम जीव-स्त्री के हृदय में बसाता है, और परमात्मा के नाम के बिना (माया के बँधनों से) खलासी नहीं होती। हे नानक! अगर मन प्रभू की याद में रीझ जाए, तो जीव-स्त्री प्रभू के मिलाप का आनंद भोगती है, उसके हृदय में आनंद पैदा हुआ रहता है।1।
