Bilaaval, First Mehl: The human acts according to the wishes of the mind. This mind feeds on virtue and vice. Intoxicated with the wine of Maya, satisfaction never comes. Satisfaction and liberation come, only to one whose mind is pleasing to the True Lord. ||1|| Gazing upon his body, wealth, wife and all his possessions, he is proud. But without the Name of the Lord, nothing shall go along with him. ||1||Pause|| He enjoys tastes, pleasures and joys in his mind. But his wealth will pass on to other people, and his body will be reduced to ashes. The entire expanse, like dust, shall mix with dust. Without the Word of the Shabad, his filth is not removed. ||2||
प्रभु-नाम से बिसरे हुए मनुख की) बुद्धि (भी) मन के कहे अनुसार चलती है, और यह मन केवल यही बातें सोचता है की (शास्त्रों की मर्यादा अनुसार) पुन्य क्या है और पाप क्या है। माया के नशे में मस्त हुए मनुख को (माया की तरफ) से सब्र नहीं होता। माया का सब्र और माया के मोह से खलासी तभी होती है जब मनुख को सदा-थिर रहने वाला प्रभु मन में प्यारा लगने लग जाता है॥१॥ हे अभिमानी जीव! देख, यह शरीर, यह धन, यह स्त्री-यह सब (सदा साथ निभने वाले नहीं है)। परमात्मा के नाम के बिना कोई वस्तु (जीव के) साथ नहीं जाती॥१॥रहाउ॥ हम माया के रस का भोग करते हैं, माया की मौज मनाते हैं, (परन्तु मौत आने पर) धन (ओर) लोगों का बन जाता है और यह शारीर मिटटी की ढेरी हो जाता है। यह सारा ही पसारा (अंत) मिटटी में मिल जाता है। (मन पर विषे-विकारों की मैल इकठ्ठा होती रहती है, वह) मैल गुरु के शब्द के बिना नहीं उत्तरती॥२॥
